Bukayo Saka injury update following England’s Defeat to Greece
Arsenal fans are anxiously awaiting news on Bukayo Saka’s injury after the winger was forced to leave the field early during England’s 2-1 loss to Greece.
Saka exited the match in the 52nd minute, clutching his right hamstring, raising concerns as he was replaced by Noni Madueke in the Nations League game at Wembley.
The injury occurred as Saka attempted a cross, sparking immediate worry among Arsenal supporters, fearing a lengthy absence for the young star.
Adding to Arsenal’s injury woes, manager Mikel Arteta is already without captain Martin Odegaard, who picked up an injury during the last international break.
Saka was seen leaving Wembley carefully after the match, with interim England manager Lee Carsley revealing that the extent of the injury remains unclear.
“He’s being assessed right now,” Carsley confirmed during his post-match press conference. “It was clear he was struggling with discomfort before the first goal due to a leg issue.” This only deepened the disappointment of a tough night for England, who were outplayed by a determined Greek side.
Vangelis Pavlidis stole the spotlight, scoring twice and exploiting England’s shaky defense throughout the game.
His first goal came just after halftime, as he weaved through a fragile backline to slot past Jordan Pickford. England found hope when Jude Bellingham equalized with a powerful strike in the 87th minute, assisted by Ollie Watkins.
However, defensive lapses returned in stoppage time, allowing Pavlidis to pounce on a loose ball and net the winner, a moment dedicated to his late teammate George Baldock.
Carsley’s tactical experiment saw an unusual starting lineup for England, with no recognized striker in the absence of Harry Kane. Saka took his usual spot on the right wing, Anthony Gordon on the left, and Phil Foden deployed as a false No.9, supported by Bellingham and Cole Palmer. The strategy failed to deliver, leaving fans frustrated and hoping for improvement in their upcoming match against Finland.
As doubts loom over Saka’s availability for England’s next game, Arsenal fans will also be closely monitoring his fitness ahead of their Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Saka has been pivotal for Arsenal this season, contributing three goals and seven assists in just 10 matches, making him a key player in Arteta’s quest for Premier League success.
Saka’s recent performance in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Southampton showcased his talent, as he scored a goal and provided two assists.
Arteta praised his development, stating, “That’s the maturity we need in players. He’s been with the team long enough to earn that responsibility, and he’s proving his ability to impact games, which he has done brilliantly this season.”
